Our Mission
The mission of the Global Health and Leadership Conference at Harvard is to inspire interest in global health and empower youth to serve as the next generation of civically-minded leaders.

Founded in 2017, the Global Health and Leadership Conference at Harvard promotes engagement with a wide array of global health topics and fosters collaborations between Harvard professors, undergraduates, and high school students from around the world. We seek to educate high school students about the complex and intersectional factors that underlie global health beyond the realm of biomedicine – from issues of socioeconomic disparities to climate change, law and criminal justice, and immigration.
Conference participants attend a keynote speaker series led by global health professionals across diverse disciplines, and also partake in Q&A sessions and career panels. In addition, students will attend interactive workshops led by Harvard undergraduate global health organizations. Students may choose to participate in the Community Project Pitch Competition and/or the Case Study Competition. The Pitch Competition challenges students to research, design, develop, and propose a global health-related civic project in their home communities. The Case Study Competition is a fast-paced exercise in a timed setting – during the Conference, participating students will be placed in teams and must research and write a policy proposal in response to a given prompt. |

Carl Ma, '25
President 
Zijian (Carl) is a senior in Adams House from Tianjin, China, concentrating in Chemical and Physical Biology and Computer Science with a minor in Sociology. His passion lies at the intersection between exploring the secret of life and transforming existing knowledge into social impact. On campus, he serves as the president of Harvard VISION: Global Health Society, director of the Harvard Entrepreneur Community, Chief Programming Officer of the Harvard College China Forum, education director of HCS Tech and Global Health Initiative, co-founder of the Harvard Aging Initiative, and the president of the Harvard College Chinese International Students Society. In his free time, Carl enjoys hiking, birdwatching, playing board games, and hanging out with friends and family. As the conference approaches, Carl is looking forward to meeting the next generation of civically-minded leaders from all over the world and can't wait to brainstorm inspiring, innovative projects with them.
Angel Zhang, '26
Outreach Director 
Angel is a junior in Winthrop House from Shanghai, China, double concentrating in Economics and History of Art and Architecture with a Secondary in Integrative Biology. She's incredibly interested in the intersection of international relations with environmental and health policy, as well as the interaction between human communities and wildlife. On campus, she is the Vice President of Harvard College China Forum and a Design Editor for The Harvard Crimson. She also loves traveling, eating bagels, and listening to music.
Christopher Shin, '27
Finance Director 
Chris Shin is a sophomore at Harvard concentrating in Chemical and Physical Biology & Government and a Director of Finance. He is passionate about global health, particularly in epidemiology and public health policy. Aside from Harvard VISION, he is involved in Harvard Model Congress, Intercollegiate Model United Nations, and he conducts research in Alzheimer's Disease pathology at the Massachusetts Alzheimer's Disease Research Center.
Tracy Yuan, '26
Programming Director 
Tracy is a junior in Eliot House studying Molecular & Cellular Biology and Statistics. She is passionate about advocating for systemic changes that acknowledge and address the social determinants of health. In her free time, she enjoys exploring nature.

Sammy Tin, '26
Operation Director 
Sammy is a junior from Yangon, Myanmar studying Economics and Environmental Science + Public Policy (ESPP), with a secondary in Global Health and Health Policy (GHHP). She has extensive experience working in healthcare in the Southeast Asia region, and is beyond excited to share these experiences with you! Outside of GHLC, however, she loves spending time with her friends, playing board games and video games, and trying new restaurants in Boston. Stop her anytime to ask for pictures of her dogs :))
Alyssa Cai, '27
Strategy Director 
Alyssa Cai is a sophomore from Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey planning to concentrate in Neuroscience with a secondary in Philosophy. Outside of VISION, Alyssa is also involved in The Harvard Undergraduate Research Journal, Harvard Review of Philosophy, Global Research Consulting, and Mission: Brain. Alyssa also enjoys volunteering, reading, playing volleyball, and painting. She is incredibly excited to help create this year’s Global Health Leadership Conference!
Alex Aldrich, '25
Programming Director 
Alex Aldrich is a senior in Adams House studying Neuroscience with a secondary in Mind Brain Behavior. He has a keen interest in the intersection between technology and medicine, and how technological innovation can drive increased access to healthcare across the world. In his free time, Alex enjoys playing rugby, writing music, motorcycling, and hanging out with friends. Drawing from his experience in the Harvard University Foreign Policy Initiative and Harvard College Consulting Group, he is excited to help VISION facilitate the next generation of student pioneers in the field of global health.
Paul Lewis, '18
Founder 
Paul Lewis is a medical student at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard College where he concentrated in Neurobiology with a secondary in Global Health and Health Policy. Paul is the Founder of Harvard College VISION Global Health Society and the Global Health and Leadership Conference. Paul is the recipient of the Robert T. Benjamin Prize for his contribution to the health and wellness of Harvard, The Harvard Phillips Brooks House Association Houston Award for exceptional commitment to serving underprivileged communities, and the Harvard Transcript Project Prize for excellence in writing and reflection. He was awarded the Finley Fellowship from Harvard to spend a postgraduate year in Japan learning about end-of-life care. He aspires to become a physician leader involved in the holistic health of communities by caring for the whole person during treatment, promoting dignity for the marginalized, and acting as a mentor for youth to become conscientious caregivers.
