Pitch Competition
The mission of the Global Health and Leadership Conference is to inspire youth to grow as civically minded leaders through engaging in evidence-based, cost-effective, and sustainable interventions that promote the wellbeing and dignity of people. These individual projects are an important part of that mission. They involve researching and critically thinking about real-life issues that affect local communities. Participants design solutions to these problems and “pitch” them to create tangible social impact. Top entries will be celebrated during a virtual awards ceremony. All students who apply to 2024 Conference before July 15, 2024 are eligible to participate in the Community Pitch Competition.
2024 Case Study Competition
The 2024 Global Health and Leadership Conference Case Study Competition will be hosted during the conference. Participants will receive a resource packet with background information, specific instructions, and judging criteria approximately 1 week before the conference. On the day of the event, participants will collaborate virtually in small teams and will have 3 hours to draft policy briefs in response to prompts released at 6:00pm. The case study competition is fast-paced and hopes to build the teamwork and decision-making skills needed during emergency situations. Top entries will be notified and invited to a virtual awards ceremony, where the top 3 teams will be announced.
After winning the care-giving case study last year, my team has gone on to implement a project based on that case study at our respective schools. This project has been recognized and supported by the Illinois School Counselor Association."

Through the conference, I was able to view other projects, brainstorm novel research ideas, and gain more awareness of the conceptual basis of future research projects that I may undertake. I expanded my skills in evaluating global health studies and immersed myself in the field while gaining baseline skills through the observation of highly nuanced and interdisciplinary research presentations, many of which were applicable to my fields of interest (e.g., sustainability, technology, systems science, environmental studies)."
