2024 Student Organization Workshops will be released in early August. Below you can find example workshops that were ran in the previous years.
2020 Student Organization Workshops
The workshops are a key component of the conference programming. The workshops are designed to allow several of Harvard’s student organizations related to global health, advocacy, or service to share their work with the conference attendees. We hope that these workshops will expose the students to a range of issues and inspire them to cause change by demonstrating what student groups can achieve.
Workshop 1 - Rising to the Challenge: Student Action in the Face of COVID-19
Saturday, May 23rd 10:30-12:00 AM EDT
The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on communities across the world. Several student-led initiatives across the country have joined together to respond to changes and burdens brought on by the pandemic. The organizations represented in this workshop series work to provide educational, financial, and social support to those affected. Conference attendees would have the opportunity to learn more about pressing issues in public health as they unfold, and how they might contribute to the response locally and remotely. We hope that these workshops will enable students to reflect on what is undoubtedly a turbulent time in all of our lives, and inspire them to apply these lessons in the future.
Student Organizations
CovEd is a community of undergraduates, postgraduates, students, and educators from colleges/universities across the U.S. who are interested in supporting K-12 students in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our goal is to create a free virtual platform for pairing mentors from higher education institutions with K-12 students affected by school closures. We hope that this platform and our resources page will help students who are currently struggling with classes during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

We are a group of grad and undergrad students working to improve transparency and communication, build community, and identify needs and innovate solutions. We do so by sharing health education material, resources for students, and opportunities to serve our greater community through our resources spreadsheet and Instagram, write policy memos for state legislators, address digital disparity, and launch other initiatives.

Workshop 2 - Advocacy: Health at the Policy Level
Saturday, May 23rd 2:30-4:00 PM EDT
Through student organizations that engage in advocacy and activism, we wish to demonstrate to the high school students how large-scale, systemic change can be achieved. Sharing your organization’s work and mission will likely educate conference participants about the policy-making process and the politicization of healthcare. This workshop may appeal to students who aspire towards a future in politics and government and is therefore important in demonstrating that everyone, as opposed to only healthcare professionals, can generate impact in the field. We hope your organization can join us in highlighting the importance of grass-roots activism to engender policy change.

Partners In Health Engage is a social justice organization driven by the uncompromising belief that everyone, especially those most in need, deserves the right to health care. Partners In Health treats patients and trains the next generation of local health care workers in some of the most remote and marginalized communities around the world. We partner with local governments and make open-ended commitments to countries to help them build strong public health systems. We don’t accept “no” for an answer, and know—emotionally and empirically—that the world’s injustices have cures.

Workshop 3 - Direct Service: A Focus on Vulnerable Populations
Sunday, May 24th 9:30-11:00 AM EDT
Several Harvard undergraduates are engaged in direct service to serve the local community and assist vulnerable groups. The organizations represented at this panel will likely work in radically different fields with varying target demographic groups. Learning about these initiatives will inspire students to engage with service opportunities in their own communities. We encourage you to share your mission, your personal experiences, and the challenges you face whilst pursuing direct service.
